Meeting Times We operate total 42 Saturdays in one academic year from April to March. It runs from 8:50 - 3:00pm.

Who is it for? Children who understand Japanese well enough to follow the school's curriculum 生徒受け入れにあたっては日本語での授業に充分ついていけることが条件となります。
Who started it? The school is operated by "Sakura-kai", a not for profit organization, and the Board, chaired by Mr.S. Okazaki and consists of 5 to 7 members makes the day to day operational decision.

When did it start? The school opened it's door in October, 1986 shortly after a group of few families moved to Bloomington-Normal, Illinois from Japan to be associated with the opening of a new automotive assembly plant that was to be run by Mitsubishi/Chrysler joint venture.

本校は三菱自動車の当地進出に伴って設立され86年10月に3人の生徒を対象として開校しました。
How did you start? Since the beginning of program, the state of Illinois has provided various support which included the permission to use the facility of the state school.

開校以来イリノイ州のサポートもあり州立大学付属小学校の校舎を使用しておりますので教室・体育館・講堂その他立派な施設を毎週使わせてもらっています
How does it work? The school is intended to keep Japanese students being away from home at the level adequate enough to make adjustment smoothly when they go back to home country after a few years stay in the U.S.

Over the years, the school has opened its door to local families and their children who have basic Japanese language skill to be able to follow the school curriculum. Currently, the number of children from the local families accounts for more than 20% of total students.


学校設置目的
本校には小学部と中学部を設ける。その主たる目的は、海外駐在員の子女が帰国後の日本での教育並びに社会環境に適応できる能力を維持できるよう、国語、算数(数学)そして高学年では社会科を加えて、日本語によりこれを補習教育する。

* 日本の伝統文化、習慣を重んじ、真の国際人として次世代を担うことのできる感性を養う。

How does it benefit families? It enables children of Japanese families to enter or re-enter the Japanese schooling system. It enables them to keep up in their schooling.
