Who is it for? Families who want their kids to have access to lots of English books, and be able to use English with other kids in the community.
How many?Icon How many? About 10-15 families
Who started it? Lynne Sato
When did it start? About 2000.
How did you start? Lynne wanted to make English books much more available to English using families in the Tokyo area without the cost.

It is also a great opportunity for kids to use English and learn with each other.
How does it work? It costs just ¥1000 a year, and that is used to cover the cost of the rent.

Each month has a theme for the children to enjoy:

* Listening to stories.
* Share-reading books with other kids
* Making crafts
* Developing their writing using worksheets.

At the end of the session, the kids browse and choose from our huge selection of books what they want to take home to read.

How do you keep the group/program going? To keep Biblioteka going we need someone to be living in the Yoyogi area that can pay the room dues each month.

It really is a valuable resource, which is why I took it on. But, we are in need of another couple of people to help keep it going.
How does it benefit families? * Families get to meet each other.

* Kids get to use English with other kids in the comumunity.

* Biblioteka really motivates the kids' desire to read and write in English - especially older kids who love being able to choose what they want to read.
Any advice for others who want to set up something similar? It is not easy but it is a great benefits to have a book resource like this in your community.
