|Contact Person||Sue Aitken|
|Who is it for?||All English speaking children aged 5-16yrs.|
|Who started it?||
Blackhen Education was started by Sue Aitken and her partner Andy Mackay.We are both qualified & experienced British teachers. We also have other teachers at Blackhen Education to help with preparing materials and marking the work.
|When did it start?||
Blackhen Education started in August 2010.
|How did you start?||
We were both teachers in the UK before moving to France.
After teaching pupils on a 1-1 basis here in France, we decided to expand Blackhen Education to include online tuition as well. We started to get enquiries from parents living in other parts of France, who wanted their children to maintain their English skills.
|How does it work?||
The courses are available to anyone who has access to a computer. We send monthly units (containing 4 lessons)to the student. They are returned to us once completed and marked by our staff.
All courses follow national curriculum guidelines and contain reading & writing skills.All lessons are prepared and marked by qualified and experienced British teachers.
At the end of KS3 students have acquired the necessary skills to start one of our IGCSE English courses if they choose.
|How do you keep the group/program going?||We are constantly looking at how we can keep our courses fresh and up to date.We also run regular competitions for all children.|
|How does it benefit families?||
It allows all families where ever they live in France, access to English courses for their children.If they are unable to get to a class in their area, we can offer online tuition for their child.
The student just needs access to a computer. Some of our students now take their work into their English lessons at school.
Students can also follow our IGCSE English Language & Literature courses. These are very important if they are to return to the UK to study at university level.
