Who is it for? For first time parents and those in needing a 'refresher'
How many?Icon How many? Since opening has served more than 1600 couples in Tokyo and surrounding environs.
Who started it? Brett Iimura - Childbirth educator who is certified by the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA).
When did it start? CEC was established in March, 1997. CEC was created to provide information and support to new parents in English. CEC's philosophy is based on the concepts of family-centered maternity care and freedom of choice based on knowledge of alternatives in childbirth.

How does it work? CEC is devoted to preparing women and their partners for the journey through pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. We are based in a natural childbirth perspective. Our aim is to inform couples of the choices they have so they themselves can make decisions appropriate to their own lifestyle and philosophy.

Classes include:

* Choosing a caregiver
* Birthing your baby
* Birth refresher
* Baby basics for new parents

Classes focus on up-to-date, unbiased, evidence-based information. CEC also has lots of pamphlets, videos, and other useful information on - how to register your baby's birth in Japan; vocabulary translations into over a dozen languages; etc.)

For more information, please see the website or contact CEC.
How do you keep the group/program going? CEC maintains close contact with doctors, midwives, and allied health professionals in Japan keeping its finger on the pulse of birth related issues that affect both foreigners and Japanese alike.
