| Who is it for? | For English-speaking or bilingual families who share our commitment to raising bilingual children. | ||||||||
|
| NICE currently has nearly 100 children (From babies to teens). | ||||||||
| When did it start? | NICE originally began as a mother-child group in the former American military barracks in Fürth in 1993. | ||||||||
| How did you start? |
The group quickly expanded and additional space was needed. The move to Nürnberg provided the needed additional space and allowed the group to separate the older and younger children to provide age appropriate activities.
| ||||||||
| How does it work? |
NICE is an informal group of families with the common goal of encouraging our children’s use of the English language, for families with at least one English speaking parent. We are not a school for families who would like their child to learn English. We support children who already speak English.
Most families in our group have at least one native English speaking parent, but if your family should not have a native English speaking parent, English should be a spoken language at home. In both cases, English should be spoken at home with the child by at least one parent. In NICE, children join one of the small groups (up to 12 children), depending on their age. | How do you keep the group/program going? |
Since its beginnings NICE has grown considerably, and we have had to move several times times, until landing at a Kindergarten in the north of Nürnberg, where we've now been for several years.
Throughout this time, the group has not only grew in numbers but also in the number and quality of the activities provided. Since we are constantly growing, we have had to keep moving as our needs changed. | ||||||||
| How does it benefit families? | Your children will get to keep their English language and culture, and you will soon find new native English speaking friends amongst us. | ||||||||
