C’est pour qui? Children age 2.5 to 4 years old
Qui a lancé l’initiative? Daisy Chain was started by Royal Dutch Shell as a playgroup for the children of the employees. However, other the years the ownership has changed and Daisy Chain is now run by both the staff (teachers) and committee (parents).
Quand avez-vous lance l’initiative? The playgroup was started roughly 30 years ago.
Comment avez-vous fait pour lancer l’initiative? (ex. Qui vous a aidé?) See above (previous ownership by Shell).
Comment cela fonctionne? Currently there are three teachers working four days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Class sizes are up to 15 students per session. Daisy Chain works by providing expats the opportunity to have their children learn English, play and also provide the children with an important lesson of interacting with other children from different nationalities and backgrounds.
Comment faites-vous perdurer le groupe/programme? As Daisy chain is a non-profit organisation, the staff and rent (of the hall) are paid by the fees submitted by the parents.
Qu’apporte votre initiative aux familles bilingues / internationales? As stated previously, the majority of the children are expats, and have a limited knowledge of English. Therefore by attending the sessions, they are taught the basics of the language. This in turn helps them as they go on to primary school and also, due to the timings of the sessions, the parents are able to continue their jobs without difficulty.
Conseils pour d’autres qui souhaitent lancer un groupe similaire? Thorough planning and financial stability are crucial. Also, advertising to ensure that the number of children who will attend is at a particular level is equally as important.
