| Comment avez-vous fait pour lancer l’initiative? (ex. Qui vous a aidé?) |
After living in Japan, off-and-on, since 1996, it became apparent that there is a HUGE GAP and resultant NEED for English Speaking/Bilingual special education services/infrastructure for students with Learning Differences in the Elementary School age range. (Ages 5 -15)
Experience and best practices collected from the following schools have become part of what makes up MPIJ-dou (Way of MPIJ) Blue Hills Regional Technical Vocational School, Canton, MA, USA TechBoston Academy, Dorchester, MA, USA ISS (International Secondary School), Mita, Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan ISSH (International School of the Sacred Heart), Hiroo, Shibyu-ku, Tokyo, Japan Downey Elementary School, Islington, MA, USA Thurston Junior High School, Westwood, MA, USA Westwood High School, Westwood, MA, USA UMASS Lowell, Lowell, MA, USA Boston University, Boston, MA, USA MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA Tsukishima Hoikuen, Tsukishima, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan Tsukishima Dai Ichi Shyou Gakou, Tsukishima, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Japan

MPIJ works with students, their families, and their communities in three different ways:
1) Instruction/Lessons in the MPIJ Classroom in Mita, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Address: Ai International School (4F), 5-4-4 Mita Minato-ku Phone: 090.9349.2058 2) Home-schooling/Home-instruction. Familiar surroundings is where students often-times feel the most comfortable during the relationship-building stages of education. 3) Shadow teaching, or focused pull-out sessions at the student's existing school, whether it be a preschool, kindergarten, or elementary school. Customized education is provided to the students. Parents, folks the parents deem fit, siblings, and in some cases the student themselves provide input on which areas should first be focused upon. After demonstrate-able success/growth is acknowledged, follow-on topics/areas are negotiated with all concerned. Goals/targets are set, with time-frames suggested, with an understanding that priorities may change, and re-adjustment of the CURRENT PLAN IN PLACE is an on-going process.
| Qu’apporte votre initiative aux familles bilingues / internationales? |
“My son started with MPIJ in January 2009. We couldn’t have been happier with the dedication, compassion, and flexibility of MPIJ’s program. Through a combination of academic creativity and structured learning, our son went from a reluctant student to an excited and capable learner! We are eternally grateful for the safe and loving atmosphere of MPIJ.”
