１．補習授業校としての形態
本校は日本の文部科学省より補習授業校として認可を得ております。補習授業校とは、日本政府の海外子女教育推進の施策に基づいて、日本の義務教育の学齢で現地校に通学している在留邦人児童生徒の基礎学力を補うことを目的として、一部の教科について補習授業を行う教育施設です。日本国内の小・中学校のような義務教育の学校ではありませんが、文部科学省の学習指導要領に準じ、その一部を、文部科学省より無償給与されている教科書を使用し、補習します。週１回のみの補習校であるため、日本及びアメリカにおいても正規の学校としては認められず、正規の卒業資格も取得出来ませんが、卒業式を行い本校独自の卒業証書を発行しております。また、一貫教育を実施するために幼稚部と高等部があります。本校には３名の政府派遣教員が勤務しています。学級・教科担任はすべて現地採用教員です。原則として、日本の学齢相当の児童生徒で、すべて日本語で行われる授業を理解出来る程度に日本語を身につけている者であれば、国籍・人種等を問わず入学を認めています。 ２．私立学校としての形態 本校は補習授業校として日本政府から校舎借用料や現地採用教員への謝金の補助、派遣教員の派遣に関わる費用等の公的援助を頂いておりますが、全てが賄われているわけではありません。教員の人件費、職員の人件費、校舎借用料、教材費、図書費、設備費、光熱費、その他の雑費を賄っているのは、受益者としての児童・生徒（保護者）の納付する授業料です。ワシントンＤＣより学校法人としての承認を得ており、「ワシントン日本語学校管理運営委員会」が運営に関する決定機関です。授業内容は、日本の学習指導要領を参考に、経験豊かな政府派遣教員の指導のもとワシントン日本語学校が独自に決めています。特に幼稚部と高等部は、ニーズに合わせたフレキシブルな編制を実施しています。公立学校のような学区は有りませんので、広く受け入れた児童・生徒にとって魅力的な学校作りを目指しております。 ３．保護者の役割 保護者には２つの役割が有ります。１つ目は家庭教育の実施です。週１回６時限の授業だけで児童・生徒の日本語力の維持・向上は困難です。家庭での本読み、宿題の補佐など、学校で行われる日本語学習の手助けが必要です。２つ目は学校の管理や運営への参加です。教務と会計以外のほとんどの学校運営に関わる業務は保護者が担っています。学校を実際に管理している運営委員会、校舎代表、教室代表、安全指導当番、教室当番、図書ボランティア、コピーボランティアなど、すべて保護者によって構成されており、文字通り保護者が学校を支えています。また、運動会などの季節毎の行事も保護者のボランティアなしには成り立ちません。以上のように、当日本語学校の運営は保護者の協力なしには成り立たない事をご理解いただきますよう、宜しくお願いいたします。 4. 入学金および援助金/授業料/副教材費 http://www.wjls.org/ **************************************************** 1. Tutoring school The Japanese Ministry of Education has approved this school. We supplement the basic education of children going to school in the Washington metro area, and educate the children so that they may re-enter the Japanese schooling system. The school follows guidelines as set out by the Ministry of Education. The school will send three teachers are working in the name of the government. ２． A form of private school School auxiliary fees cover the salaries of locally hired teachers and those sent by the Japanese government. It also covers materials, book fees, equipment costs, utility costs, etcetera. ３． Role of parents Parents have two roles. The first one is providing the child with more than six hours of educational support at home to maintain and improve their Japanese spoken and literacy ability. The second is active participation in school management, accounting and operations (e.g. School representatives; Safety instructor duty; Classroom and book volunteers; Photocopying; Seasonal and athletic events volunteers). 4.
