A community of Japanese American families.
In partnership with the Japanese American community, San Francisco’s first Board of Education established JBBP in 1973 to preserve and advance the legacy of Japanese Americans and the Japanese language and culture for future generations.
It is the due to the combined efforts of its founders, teachers and families and the unwavering support of the community that JBBP has become such a successful program.
The Rosa Parks Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program (JBBP) is a 35-year old, K-5 alternative elementary school program of the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD).

Its distinctive curriculum integrated instruction and experience in Japanese language and culture – delivered through native Japanese-speaking instructors or “sensei” — with a rigorous core curriculum taught in English by credentialed teachers.

* CORE CURRICULUM is taught in English – reading, writing, math, science, social studies, language arts and multicultural studies are aligned with State and SFUSD curriculum requirements. Physical education, art, music, gardening and computers enhance the curriculum.

* JAPANESE CURRICULUM is taught through formal classroom instruction reinforced by “teaching language through culture and community”. Celebrations of Japanese and other cultural holidays, traditional arts, crafts, field trips, and more provide a meaningful context for language acquisition.

The school's Parent Teacher Community Council (PTCC) is an amazing group of volunteer who are committed to making the JBBP a strong, vibrant, and unique place for children to learn and grow.

We strongly encourage families to join the PTCC and have a voice in the decision-making process that will impact your child’s education. We welcome your input and your involvement. Engaged families are what makes JBBP standout from other programs.

PTCC Membership is divided into three groups:

* Family: Primary caregivers of a student in the JBBP, who provide at least half of the supervision and care of the student and responsible for making decision regarding the child’s education. No more than two people may represent any one student. Membership continues until the child leaves the program.

* Staff: Includes teaching faculty/site staff.

* Community: Includes founders and other people from the community.
